Probiotic Bacteria
Probiotic bacteria are live microorganisms that, when consumed in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit to the host. These beneficial bacteria are typically found in the human gut, but they can also be found in fermented foods such as yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, and kimchi. Probiotic bacteria work by colonizing the gut and promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria, while inhibiting the growth of harmful bacteria. They can also enhance the immune system, improve digestion, and produce beneficial substances such as vitamins and short-chain fatty acids. Some of the most common types of probiotic bacteria include Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, and Saccharomyces. These bacteria are often added to foods or taken as supplements to help promote gut health and overall wellness.
