Hopelessness
Hopelessness is a state of mind characterized by a belief or feeling that things are unlikely to improve or change for the better. It often arises from a sense of powerlessness or helplessness in the face of challenging circumstances or a perception that one’s efforts to improve one’s situation are futile. People who experience hopelessness may feel despair, sadness, and a lack of motivation to pursue their goals and dreams. It is a common symptom of depression and other mental health disorders, but it can also be a temporary response to a difficult situation. Hopelessness can be treated with therapy, medication, and other interventions that help people develop coping skills and a sense of agency over their lives.
